After a long period of 'not going out' due to poor winter weather in January 2023 my wife Liz and I were certainly glad to see a clear, sunny sky for once.
So off we headed to enjoy an early sunset (4.30pm at this time of year in North Wales) at one of our 'go to' spots on the slopes of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a short drive from our home.
Looking west out over the Vale of Clwyd towards the mountains of Snowdonia on the far horizon, this view can be spectacular in the right light. (Or dismal in the wrong light - but that's another story!)
But on this particular afternoon we were treated to a gorgeous display of sunbeams shining from behind a cloudbank passing over the shapely peaks of Arenig Fawr in Snowdonia as the sun rapidly sank down the side of the mountain.
And the beautiful light didn't end with the sun setting, as the warm rays of sunlight from below the horizon were still able to underlight the clouds above the mountain for a good few minutes after the glowing ball of the sun had disappeared.
And so I kept of filming as the light faded and the temperature dropped to below freezing, not wanting to miss any of the show, having been stuck indoors for too long.
And now I'm waiting for the next day with some breaks in the clouds - a rare event this January it seems.
