After a pretty miserable week of cloud and rain over North Wales in the latter half of November 2023, I was certainly glad when a ridge of high pressure developed over the UK, bringing a brief respite to the damp and dreary conditions.
So it was out with the camera and off to catch a winter sunset.
At this time of year the sun sets to the southwest, which means that the view looking westwards from the slopes of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, takes in the sunset over the undulating landscape of the Vale of Clwyd, with the peaks of the Snowdonia (now called Eryri) mountains lining the horizon.
One shapely mountain that can be viewed from Moel Famau is Arenig Fawr, so imaging my delight when I realised that the sun would sink into the side of Arenig Fawr as it set.
As usual, there were clouds over the high ground of Snowdonia, and I hoped that they wouldn't be too heavy to prevent the sunset from being visible.
But I needn't have worried, as the clouds were beautifully placed to enhance the experience, glowing with the warm light from the sun as it apporached the western horizon, and then giving a break just abouve Arenig Fawr to allow the sun to be clearly seen as it hit the mountain.
All in all, I couldn't have wished for a lovelier view, revelling in the wonders of what God has created.
