During the two weeks my wife Liz and I spent exploring Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands in early Febraury 2024 we made a few visits to the amazing Mirador AstronĂ³mico de la Degollada de las Yeguas.
Situated high in the mountains on the GC-60 route, overlooking Maspalomas to the south and the town of Arteara to the north, this viewpoint proved very popular with the locals (and with us), as it gave a great view of the sunset out over the Atlantic ocean.
And, of course, I just can't resist filming time lapse videos of sunsets wherever I find them!
This was my second effort at shooting a sunset timelapse from the viewpoint, the first being interesting in its own way, but somewhat muted by the effect of saharan dust in the atmosphere, blown over from Africa on the Calima wind, and you can see the Arteara Sunset Timelapse #1 by clicking on the link.
Anyhow, for this second attempt the sky was much clearer, and we were able to watch and film a beautiful sunset, followed by glowing twilight colours in the few clouds above the horizon, until it was finally time to pack up in the near darkness and take the twisting mountain road back down to our resort on the south coast.
For me, that's what a holiday is all about!
