October in the highlands of northwest Scotland, and my wife Liz and I are revelling a two week break in this stunning part of the world.
Needless to say, we didn't come here to bask in warm sunshine on a crowded beach, but rather to get immersed in this ancient and dramatic landscape.
This late in the year, we weren't expecting great weather, but we were very blessed to have some days when the sun broke through the clouds and gave us superb lighting effects acorss the landscapes below as patches of sunlight and shadow chased each other over the mountains, forests, lochs and valleys, decked out in their autumnal finery.
One such example of the dramatic weather and associated lighting that we witnessed was on the banks of the lovely Loch Maree at the Beinn Eighe nature reserve.
Looking out across the loch to the shapely Slioch mountain I was captivated by the clouds streaming over the summit and the play of sunlight and shadow over the mountain's undulating flanks.
So it was inevitable that I should set up my camera and tripod to record this beautiful scene as a time lapse video, while munching on a slice of pizza and drinking a hot coffee.
And then it was on to the next beautiful view, usually just around the next bend in the road.
What a magnificent country!
