The story behind this video

A lovely spring day in March 2022 found my wife Liz and I enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery on the Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast.

We headed up the west coast, taking in Newborough, Aberffraw and Cable Bay before turning northwards at Valley to head for one of our favourite beaches, Church Bay (Porth Swtan), in order to take in the sunset.

The tide was heading out when we arrived, about an hour before sunset, so we settled down on the foreshore while I captured a few hundred still images of rocks emerging from under the sea as the sun crept downwards towards the haze shrouded horizon.

Having filmed the ebbing tide, and with sunset rapidly approaching, I repositioned myself and my camera to capture this composition, using the shapes of the shoreline rock formations to act as a frame into which the sun could drop before finally sinking below the horizon.

But in the end that layer of haze over the Irish Sea proved too dense and the sun disappeared before reaching the horizon.

But nevertheless, the particles in the atomoshere imparted a lovely warm glow and rich colours to the sunset which just added to the loveliness of the event.

What a glorious way to spend a day!
