The wolf moon of January 2022 is pictured in this time lapse video, rising into the skies above the larch trees of Coed Moel Famau, part of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty here in North Wales.
It was a beautiful winter's afternoon, with clear blue skies and crisp, cold air as I made my way from my home, just ten minutes away, having planned to capture this moonrise since having missed its predecessor in December.
It's only in mid-winter that the full moon rises above Coed Moel Famau so I was really glad that the conditions were perfect to give me another chance.
So as a stunning sunset developed behind me over the lovely Vale of Clwyd, I resolutely pointed my camera in the opposite direction and waited for the edge of the moon to appear through the trees.
And I didn't have to wait long, as the wolf moon was set to clear the horizon almost an hour before sunset, which meant that the moon rose above the trees about thirty minutes before sunset.
This resulted in the gorgeous juxtaposition of larch trees bathed in warm light with the bright disk of the full moon rising into a pale blue sky behind.
As the moon rose higher in the sky the shadow of sunset slowly enveloped the trees until finally the light of day faded from the landscape, leaving the moon in full possession of the early stages of twilight.
Just a wonderful experience to be able to watch and wonder at (and photograph) the beauties of God's celestial clockwork in action!
