The night of August 12th/13th is a special time each year, as this is the date that marks the peaks of the Perseid meteor shower, the most spectacular meteor display of the year.
And with a reasonable weather forecast, plus no moon to speak of, conditions were looking good for a fine celestial show.
So after dark I headed up to one of my favourite night-time view points on the slopes of Foel Fenlli, looking north to the summit of Moel Famau, the highest peak in North Wales' Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
My photoshoot started off full of promise, with clear skies studded with stars as I awaited the arrival of the meteors.
But before too long a bank of clouds stared building from the west, slowly tracking across the sky above the Clwydian Range, and blotting out any chance of catching the meteors on camera.
In the end I did see four Perseid meteors, but none were in the direction my camera was pointing!
So I kept on shooting the hundreds of still images neded to create a time lapse video, more in hope than expectation of catching any meteors, until the sky completely clouded over.
Still, even though I didn't manage to catch any meteors, a few hours spend up a mountain at night under the stars are never wasted, as just being out there under God's magnificent creation is a balm to the soul.
