An evening in early July 2022 and I'm at one of my 'go to' midsummer sunset filming locations, rubbing shoulders with the angling and photographic crowd on Dock Road in Conhah's Quay on the banks of the tidal river Dee estuary.
Why here at this time of year?
Well this is the time of year that the sun sets as far to the northwest as it will get, putting the sunset squarely over the dramatic silhouettes of the four chimneys of the gas fired Connah;s Quay power station and its attendant electricity pylons.
So, with a decent forecast, here I am once again, chatting with the angling fraternity while I make 1/3rd stop exposure increases as the sun sinks slowly lower in the sky and those wonderful warm tones just keep on getting more and more saturated.
Finally the sun sets at around quarter to ten and I give it a few more minutes of shooting stills to round off this time lapse video before packing up and waving goodbye for another year and the short drive home.
There's beauty to be found even in our industrial landscapes, they just need the right light to bring them to life.
