The story behind this video

The delightful little town of Firgas to the north of Gran Canaria in Spain's Canary Islands was somewhere that we'd never been to on our multiple trips to this island.

But having seen it on a Jane McDonald travel program we quickly added it to our list of new places to visit during our latest trip in Februray 2024.

It was quite a drive from our apartment on the south coast, all the way round the coast to Las Palmas and then inland to Firgas, travelling thorugh some lovely scenery on our way.

But I'm certainly glad we made the effort, as Firgas proved to be a quiet and very pretty town, not over developed and with great views out over the interior of Gran Canaria itself.

But the main attraction, the 'USP' of Firgas, is the unique spring fed waterfall that flows down a series of steps along the middle of the Paseo de Canarias.

So, of course, that's where I ended up with my camera and tripod, indulging in some careful framing to give the best view of the waterfall while trying to avoid the tourists strolling up and down the adjacent steps.

And after a couple of hours we'd seen all that there was to see in Firgas so it onto the next delightful location in the islands undeveloped north.
