That magical half hour inbetween sunset and night is captured here in this time lapse video, overlooking the port of Genoa on the Mediterranean coast of northern Italy.
Genoa has a fascinating collection of colourful old buildings, set right along the waterfront, and my wife Liz and I were perfectly situated to enjoy the view from the balcony of our cruise cabin, thirteen decks above the water, as the warm artifical lights of the harbour slowly took precedence over the cool blue tones of twilight in the skies above.
I was trying a new time lapse technique out on this cruise around the western Mediterranean,
Instead of shooting hundreds of still images on my Canon 6DMK2 and then stringing them together to make a video in Adobe Premiere Pro, I shot 30 minutes of real time 4K video on my Canon 250D and then speeded the footage up approximately 60x to give a time lapse effect lasting 30 seconds.
This technique worked well enough under steady lighting conditions, but in this case, with the camera automatically making small exposure adjustments as the light levels dropped, I noticed some slight jumps in brightness during the course of the final video.
Lesson learnt, and I'll stick to my 'old' time lapse technique under changing lighting conditions from now on!
