Killary Fjord, along the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast of Ireland, is unique in that it is the only recognised fjord in Ireland.
Flanked by impressive mountains, this long finger of water stretches 16km inland from the Atlantic coast of Connerama and forms the border between County Galway and County Mayo.
My wife Liz and I drove aroud the fjord during our stay in Connemara in the spring of 2022, completing another leg of our ongoing project to explore the entire length of the famous Wild Atlantic Way.
The weather was mixed (isn't it always in this part of the world!), with alternating clouds and sunny patches, which is great for a spot of time lapse photography.
So while we stopped for a bite to eat at the Misunderstood Heron, it was out with the camera and tripod for a twenty minute shoot, capturing the moving clouds over the water of the fjord while patches of sunlight and shadow played over the surrounding slopes.
And then it was on to the next beautiful view which, in Connemara, is never too far away!
