The story behind this video

The summer of 2022 provided a few days of scorching heat, with temperatures in the south of the UK reaching a record breaking 40°C+.

Fortunately here in North Wales we didn't get quite that hot, topping out at a reasonable 37°C!

And it was the start of the the hottest day of the year that found me out of bed at 3.30am and heading to the North Wales coast to film a sunrise.

It was a lot cooler in the pre-dawn light as I pulled up opposite the famous victorian pier on the seafront at Llandudno, but I was still in my shorts and T shirt even so, with the mercury tickling 20°C at 4.30pm.

Having done my homework using the marvellous Photopills app I knew just where to position myself overlooking the pier to catch the sun rising next to the pavillion, but with a forty five minute wait till sunrise I used the time to film the gorgeous display of light in the cloudy skies above the pier as the sun drew closer to breaching the horizon.

Then finally the sun appeared, just where Photopills said it would, appearing briefly before hiding behind a bank of cloud for a while until it had risen further, finally clearing the clouds and heading upwards.

I kept on filming until the sun disappeared from my viewfinder, at just after 6am, before finally packing everything away for drive home, with the temperature now at 27°C and climbing!

I definitely enjoyed the best time of the day there!
