When we go away on holiday, my wife Liz and I tend to avoid the tourist hotspots, preferring instead to explore the undeveloped, more natural landscapes and villages wherever we are.
But I also have a predeliction for photographing lighthouses, and on this occasion, in Gran Canaria, that meant hitting the popular hotspot at Maspalomas, which boasts a magnificent specimen of a lighthouse, and not to be missed!
Couple that with a sunset along the beach and we had a winning combination for this time lapse video, constrasting the beautiful light in the sky with the frenetic activity along the beachfront.
And the lovely light show didn't stop after sunset either, with high clouds clinging to the warm sunset glow, beaming up from below the horizon, until finally the natural light of twilight faded away to allow the nicely light lighthouse to take centre stage.
Well worth straying out of our comfort zone to witness such a beautiful sunset and impressive lighthouse!
