For anyone wishing to experience the beauty of true wilderness, the Connemara National Park in County Galway to the west of Ireland, is the place to visit.
A breathtaking combination of wild Atlantic coast, rugged mountains and quiet loughs, my wife Liz and I spent a very happy week exploring and photographing in this sensory wonderland.
Of course, it helps if the weather plays ball, and we had a mixed bag of rain showers followed by bursts of sunlight as weather fronts streamed across from the ocean to our west.
Not great weather for a day of sunbathing on the beaches, but just the ticket if, like me, you take inspiration from dramatic and changeable lighting.
Which is what we experienced in spades during a drive through the Maumturk Mountains in Connemara, along a lonely road bordered by marshland, peat bogs and those wonderful peaks.
Naturally I couldn't let such amazing scenery and lighting go unrecorded, so we pulled into a convenient layby and I set up my camera and tripod in the eye-watering breeze to record the hundreds of still images needed to create just these few seconds of time lapse video as the racing clouds in the skies above sent patches of sunlight and shadow over the mountains and moors in a mad chiaroscuro dance.
What a stunning experience, and one we hope to repeat in the not too distant future!
