An evening spent by the side of the river Mersey, looking across the water from the Seacombe ferry terminal to the iconic Liverpool skyline on the far bank, is always a treat as the natural light of day fades through twilight and on into night.
And as my wife Liz and I sat and watched, with me filming the scene, the famous Mersey ferry came into view on the far side of the river, travelling sedately seawards towards the container docks.
I was hoping that the ferry would come back on our side of the river so I could catch it sailing close by on my video, and twenty minutes or so later that's just what happened.
The light for the ferry's sail-by was just perfect, with deep blue tones of twilight in the sky above the Liverpool skyline, contrasting with the warm glow of the brightly lit buildings and the cabin lights of the ferry itself.
Fifty seconds was all that it took for the unmistakeable ferry to sail in and out of my camera's frame, and of the hour and a half of video and time lapse that I shot that evening, those fifty seconds were my favourite.
