August 30th 2023 heralded that rare astronomical event, a 'blue supermoon', which only occurs when the full moon is unusually close to earth, and there are actually two full moons in the calendar month, the second being the 'blue' moon.
Hence the phrase 'once in a blue moon', which relates to a very rare or very unlikely event.
Well I wasn't going to let the opportunity pass me by, so after tea my wife Liz and I drove from our home in north Wales, over the border into England and headed to the Seacombe Ferry Terminal in Wallasey, on the banks of the river Mersey, giving a fantastic view of the Liverpool skyline and the iconic Liver Building, over which the full moon was due to rise just after sunset.
I had a great view of the moonrise, and once I'd finished shooting the hundreds of still images that I needed to create my Liverpool Supermoon Timelapse #2 video, I was loth to pack up and go home while such a beautiful sight was laid out before me.
So a quick change of lens and a few exposure adjustments had me pointing my camera skywards to shoot a few hundred more still images of the moon as it continued its upward path through the heavens, passing beind some thin, wispy clouds on its way which gave a lovely misty glow around the moon's shining face.
But eventually the clouds won and the moon disappeared from view, finally signalling an end to what was an enchanting evening spent with Liz watching a 'once in a blue moon' event.
