Of all the places my wife Liz and I visited on our cruise around the western Mediterranean in the autumn of 2023, our favourite was Naples on the east coast of Italy.
The old town architecture was magnificent, the wood fired pizzas were delicious, and the view from the balcony of our cruise liner, thirteen decks above the sea, was just stunning.
It's not very often you get a combination of visual treats such as we enjoyed during our stay in the port, with the busy waterways of the docks laid out before us and the imposing conical volcano, Mount Vesuvius, in the background, crowned with boiling cumulus clouds and looking like it was erupting!
So it was out with my camera, held in place manfully by my new Gorillpod tripod, firmly wrapped around our balcony railing, to capture the 1,800+ still images needed to create this time lapse video of a view I'll never forget!
