A beautiful summer's evening in July 2022, and where else would you want to be but at the seaside?
But this isn't one of my usual photographic sunset haunts along the North Wales coast.
Instead, I've ventured over the border into England to check out the sunset at New Brighton on the Wirral peninsula, right at the mouth of the river Mersey estuary.
I had an ulterior motive for coming here, and that was to film the 'Buck' supermoon rising over the famous Liverpool skyline, down the river to the southeast,the results of which you can watch here.
But that was yet to come, so to begin with I focused my attention on the sunset, developing in a smokey sky over the dramatic New Brighton lighthouse as the tide was racing in over the beach.
Not wanting to get wet, I positioned myself and my camera on a convenient shelf of rock, just a few inches clear of the sand, in the hope that I could finish shooting the sunset before getting cut off by the tide.
But in the end I misjudged the speed of the incoming tide, and I had to cut this particular shoot a few minutes short of sunset as the water started lapping around my tripod legs and creeping round behind the rock on which I was standing.
Still, quite a satisfying effort, with a colourful sky and some nice rim lighting on the impressive lighthouse.
And with the promise of that supermoon rising over Liverpool still to come!
