Some views of the North Wales coast can be enjoyed from the comfort of your car, or a seaside cafe, but some views come with freezing cold blustery winds and regular doses of rain.
Such were the conditions on this particular evening in late February 2024, as my wife Liz and I parked up in the summit car park at the top of the Great Orme, a magnificent limestone headland at the seaside resort of Llandudno, but very exposed to any weather that might be occuring!
Liz, very sensibly, had a quick look at the scene out over the Conwy estuary and then hastily retreated back to the car, depriving herself of this dramatic view but at least keeping warm and dry.
But us outdoor photographers are made of sterner stuff, so, dressed up like an artic explorer, I hunkered down over my tripod and camera, hoping the gusty wind wouldn't knock it about too much, and set about recording the hundreds of still images needed to create this time lapse video of the stormy conditions over the coastline.
With bands of rain sweeping across the hills behind Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan I wasn't going to give up until the natural light had died and I could see the lights of the A55 coastal highway shining out in the gloom.
And I'm glad I made the effort, as this resulting time lapse video conveys some of the drama being played out over the wonderful North Wales coast on that dramatic evening.
