Looking up into the night sky, do you have a favourite constellation?
Mine has to be Orion the Hunter, it always puts a smile on my face when I see it moving across the heavens, it's like greeting an old friend.
So I was really pleased when I realised that we had a view of Orion from the balcony of the apartment that Liz and I were staying in at Taurito on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands.
But due to dust from the Sahara desert in the atmosphere, and a lot of light pollution from the resorts along the south coast, it wasn't until our holiday was nearly over that I got the chance to film this time lapse video.
With clear skies and Orion high enough above the horizon to avoid the light polluion I was able to set my camera up on our balcony (what a luxury!) and shoot the hundreds of still images needed to create this sequence.
Having fitted my best battery and biggest memory card into my trusty Canon 6DMK2 I set the camera off shooting and went to bed.
In the end, my camera managed to keep shooting 10 second exposures continuously for three and a half hours, giving me over 1,000 RAW files to play with.
A far cry from my usual astrophotography locations, stuck halfway up a welsh mountain in the freezing cold!
