One of the best views along the North Wales coast, this is what you see from a little known car park just outside the village of Gwaenysgor, nestled in the Clwydian hills overlooking Prestatyn.
It's a great spot to catch a sunset from in the summer, as the sun sets out over the Irish Sea towards the northwest, but on this occasion my wife Liz and I were up here in winter, hoping to see the northern lights over the Gwynt-y-môr offshore wind farm out in Colwyn Bay. (We succeeded, by the way - check out this video.)
But before night comes twilight, and a beautiful twilight it was that evening too, with the sky a fiery orange near the horizon, fading to deep blue overhead, as the lights of Prestatyn glowed against the dark landscape below us.
So, of course, I wasn't going to waste such an opportunity, so as we waited for full darkness to catch the aurora borealis, I spent the time shooting a few hundred still images as twilight faded to night, in order to create this short time lapse video.
And no doubt we'll be back in the summer to catch one of those stunning sunsets!
