A wintertime ridge of high pressure over North Wales brought with it crisp, clear skies and a strong northerly wind, direct from the arctic.
Having been stuck indoors under very grey and dreay skies for almost a week, my wife Liz and I were all too keen to brave the icy conditions and head to the coast for a bracing stroll along the promenade at Prestatyn.
Well, bracing it certainly was! And quite exciting too, as the stiff onshore breeze combined with a new moon high tide to hurl large waves against the promenade's sea defenses, shooting spray and spume high in the air.
A risky situation in which to set up a camera, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I positioned my camera and tripod as close to the action as I could get and shot thirty second bursts of video, trying to capture the more dramatic waves crashing over the walkway.
Fortunately neither I nor my camera received anything worse than a layer of crusted salt for our efforts, which took some work back at home to clean off, but well worth the risk to capture the great waves action!
