No matter where you go in Ireland, you're never too far away from a ruined tower or castle.
A relic of Ireland's turbulent history, these strongholds hark back to the days of local chieftains constantly at war with each other.
This particular example is Renvyle castle, dramatically situated on the atlantic coast of County Galway and in the Connemara National Park.
Looking for a good spot to watch a sunset from, My wife Liz and I settled on this view looking west out over the atlantic ocean, with Renvyle castle providing a great focal point for a photographic session.
With patterned clouds streaming by over the water, and the castle forming a stark silhouette against the glowing sky, this was a great spot to shoot a time lapse video from.
In fact, we came back to this location twice, with this particular evening providing the best light show.
