Driving home from a week long stay at Carnforth at the southern end of England's Lake District, my wife Liz and I decided to prolong our enjoyment with a side trip through the Yorkshire Dales.
We headed for Hawes where we stopped for a cheese buying break at the Wensleydale factory before heading south along the Ribble Valley.
The Ribble Valley is an area of exquisite bleakness, punctuated by rolling hills and, at the southern end, by the magnificent Ribble Valley railway viaduct.
There were a lot of cars parked by the side of the road overlooking the viaduct so we decided to join them and see what might be coming over along the tracks, as it's a favourite run for steam train enthusiasts.
Of course, I had my camera out recording the hundreds of still images needed to create a time lapse video, quite content to record the roiling storm clouds forming and decaying in the skies over the viaduct, as patches of sunlight and shadow raced across the landscape below.
And then, all of a sudden, a train appeared on the viaduct. (Blink and you'll miss it!)
It wasn't a steaming locomotive, but rather a very old fashioned diesel that I remember from my childhood.
Still, nice to see and capture very briefly on this time lapse video. A nice remnder of days long past.
