Time lapse of clouds over the Silent Valley reservoir, Northern Ireland #1

The story behind this video

During a week long holiday with our Irish family at Kilkeel in County Newry, Northern Ireland, we took full advantage of our location to explore the beautiful scenery of the Mountains of Mourne.

Nestled high in a secluded valley we eventually found the Silent Valley nature reserve and reservoir, and enjoyed a good hour's worth of walking around and a visit to the café, culminating in a climb up to the dam wall at the southern end of the reservoir.

The weather was typical Ireland, with intermittent showers and clouds hustling along on a moderate breeze, passing over the mountains either side of silent Valley.

But fortunately I managed to find a twenty minute window in-between showers to capture the hundreds of still images needed to create this time lapse video, featuring the impressive overflow funnel and water take off tower.

What a wonderful hidden gem of a place!
