The magnificent volcanic sea cliffs along the northwest coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands form the backdrop to this time lapse video overlooking the seaside resort of Los Giganates.
My wife Liz and I were enjoying a two week break on the island in February 2022, spending most of our time driving around looking and photographing the scenery.
I knew of this view overlooking Los Gigantes from previous visits to the island in pre-covid days, and we were really looking forward to seeing this stretch of coastline once again.
But during our stay on Tenerife, an unseasonable wind, called the 'Calima' was filling the skies over the Canary Islands with a dense cloud of fine dust from the Sahara desert.
So our view northwards along the coast from Los Gigantes was somewhat muted, with those amazing cliffs slowly disappearing into the haze.
But no matter, as I was more interested, on this occasion, in capturing the change from day to night over the Los Gigantes.
So Liz and I stood and watched, fortified by hot coffee from the clifftop café nearby, as my camera clicked away, capturing the hundreds of still images needed to create this short time lapse video.
At these southerly latitudes night falls quickly, and it wasn't long before the sky had turned completely black and it was time to drive back to our resort on the south coast.
But what amazing scenery, even with te Calima dust!
