After a two year hiatus due to Covid my wife Liz and I were finally able to enjoy a much postponed winter break on Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
Our idea of a good holiday doesn't involve sitting on a beach or by a hotel pool, but rather getting in a hire car and exploring the more out of the way (and more interesting) places.
So it was out with the map and off up mountainous twisting roads that led to the historical village of Masca in the Teno mountains to the northwest of Tenerife.
But just before you get to Masca there's this amazing view out west over the Atlantic ocean and the island of Gomera, framed between two dramatic volcanic outcroppings, and into which, at this time of year, the sun sets, wonderfully placed in the Vee shaped silhouette formed by the two peaks either side.
So we parked up in a convenient layby, got out our picnic and settled in to enjoy and film the sunset for this time lapse video.
And although the sun disappeared into a bank of cloud before reaching the horizon, the play of light as the sun and clouds interacted was just mesmerising.
Well worth straying off the beaten track to see such beauty!
