On the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands there's one geological feature that's hard to miss from wherever you are.
That is, of course, the magnificent and huge volcano in the centre of the island, Mount Teide.
During a two week winter break on Tenerife in the February of 2022 my wife Liz and I spent a lot of time at high altitude in the Teide National Park, that huge caldera that surrounds Mount Teide, enjoying the spectacular scenery and the rare treat of snow, which we've never seen before in previous visits to the island.
There are many viewpoints and laybys on the road around the park, and we chose this one, near the astronomical observatory, to watch and film as the sun sank down behind the snow dusted slopes of the volcano.
In the end we stayed there till almost the end of twilight, as the sky and clouds put on a brilliant and colouful lightshow for us to enjoy once the sun had set.
And, of course, I had my camera set up, clicking away every ten seconds to record the gorgeous light and scenery for this time lapse video.
