A promising looking sky in the late afternoon of an otherwise cloudy day in early October 2023 had me loading up the car with photographic gear and heading out to, hopefully, catch a sunset.
At this time of year the sun sets just to the south of due east, which makes the westward facing slopes of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Northeast Wales, a great spot from which to view and photograph the rolling landscape of the Vale of Clwyd under a big sky.
But when I got to my chosen spot in the Pen Barras car park (isn't it great when you don't have to hike up a mountain to get a fantastic view!) I was confronted with a sea of mist in the low lying Vale below, reaching up almost to my chosen viewpoint and adding an ethereal glow to the setting sun.
Wow! You don't see conditions like this very often, so I was in a state of high excitement as I set up my camera and tripod to record the hundreds of frames needed to create this time lapse video.
20 seconds of video requires 600 individual frames, in case you were interested.
And with the mist billowing and eddying just below me I watched entranced as the sun sank towards the far horizon, breaking out of my reverie only to make minute exposure adjustments on my camera as the light slowly faded away.
And when I got back home and processed the time lapse I was entranced all over again!
