You can tell from the #23 in the title of this video that this isn't the first time I've stood with my camera and tripod looking out over the beautiful Vale of Clwyd in north Wales at sunset.
You'd think after 22 previous videos of sunset over the Vale of Clwyd that I would have gotten tired of this view by now, but no.
You see, every time my wife Liz and I take the fifteen minute drive up to the Pen Barras car park on the slopes of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we see a different view looking west out over the low lying land of the Vale to the peaks of Snowdonia (now called Eryri) in the far west.
Although the landscape stays the same, the light changes, the weather changes, and the position of the sunset changes throughout the year.
Sometimes the weather is pants, with a flat grey sky and drizzle, in which case we don't even bother to get out of the car.
But sometimes the weather and sunset combine to produce absolute magic.
And such was the case this particular afternoon in December 2023, with broken clouds over the Vale of Clwyd allowing vivid beams of golden sunlight to sweep across the undulating landscape below, before the sun finally set in a blaze of colour over the far western hills.
Well worth the effort to watch and film the 23rd Vale of Clwyd sunset time lapse video!
