Mid January 2024, and a brief break in the stormy weather over North Wales had my wife Liz and I escaping from our house and heading up to Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, for a breath of fresh air and a bit of exersize.
However, looking out from the car park over the Vale of Clwyd we soon decided against straying too far from the car, as heavy clouds and bands of rain were powering up the Vale from the Irish Sea coast, just a few miles to the north, and threatening to engulf us at any moment.
But with the sun heading downwards over the mountain of Arenig Fawr in Snowdonia (now called Eryri) on the western horizon, playing hide and seek behind the clouds and sweeping bands of rain, I certainly thought it was worth the risk of setting up my camera to record the extraordinary light and weather event being played out in front of us.
So for the next twenty minutes we watched in awe at the dramatic, rapidly moving clouds, rain and sunlight as my camera clicked away.
And we managed to keep filming right until the sun had finally set behind the mountains, just making it back into our car before the first drops of the downpour hit the windscreen.
What an amazing place North Wales is!
