A still, clear, late spring evening was all the incentive my wife Liz and I needed to head out to one of our local beauty spots to watch the sun setting.
But with so many lovely views to choose from, where would we go?
In the end we decided to head up to Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which gives great views to the west out over the fertile Vale of Clwyd to the mountains of Snowdonia (now called Eryri) on the far horizon.
A ridge of high pressure had formed over North Wales, bringing with it still air, holding more dust and moisture than usual and imparting a lovely warm glow to the sky over the horizon.
Just perfect conditions to photograph a sunset, so I took full advantage and shot neary six hundred still frames down the long end of my 100-400mm zoom lens as the sun slowly made its way downwards.
And, unusually for North Wales, the sky was clear at the horizon, allowing me to capture the sunset all the way down to the last flicker of light as day faded into night.
What an amazing piece of God's creation we're blessed to live in here in North Wales!
