I'd just spent half an hour shooting the hundreds of still images needed to create my Clwydians Sunset Timelapse #2 video, perched on top of the limestone escarpment at Loggerheads Country Park near my home in Northeast Wales.
And with the January evening sky slowly darkening with the onset of twilight a thin crescent moon, just past new, appeared like a jewel in the heavens above the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
So I delayed my departure for another forty five minutes or so as I reset my camera to record the moons passage downwards towards the western horizon.
When I started capturing the thousands of images needed to make a smooth time lapse using a 400mm lens the moon was barely visible against the brightness of the twilight sky, but by the end of the shoot, approximately forty minutes later, the sky had darkened to almost complete black relative to the brightness of the moon's thin crescent.
And so I made my way back down through the woods of Loggerheads to my car, with just enough light left in the sky for me to pick my path.
What a fantastic evening, and I was still home well in time for tea!
