This is my second attempt at filming a time lapse video of the sunset over the turbines of the Gwynt-y-Môr offshore wind farm, on the North Wales coast, within the course of a week.
My first attempt, Windfarm Sunset Timelapse #6, was nice, but a bank of cloud along the horizon of the Irish Sea resulted in a somewhat premature sunset, and I was sure that I could do better on an evening with clear skies.
So with another nice, hot day forecast for the 9th August 2022 my wife Liz and I set off once again for Rhyl, the closest spot on land to the wind farm.
We chose our spot carefully, in order to get the sunset to line up with the group of turbines closest to our viewpoint on the Rhyl promenade, and I set my camera off recording the passage of the setting sun downwards towards the far horizon.
The sky wasn't completely clear, and I was a bit worried that the sun would vanish behind clouds once again, but this time the murk just above the horizon was thin enough to let the sun shine though all the way down to the sea, while picking up the beautiful, warm orange and gold tints from the low angled sunlight.
And with those turbines sitting majestically on the horizon the sunset was all I hoped it would be.
But the beauty didn't end there, as the colours of dusk lingered in the heavens above the turbines for nearly an hour.
So I just kept on shooting hundreds more still images as the light of day faded to night and the warning lights on the silhouetted turbines shone out in the darkness.
Wht a glorious way to spend an evening, watching the glory of God unfold in the heavens above us.
