Although the coastline of Anglesey, North Wales, is stunningly beautiful, the island has played host to some quite serious industries in the past that have left indelible marks on the landscape.
But instead of detracting from the natural beauty, I find these man-made intrusions, once work had finished, actually add to the atmosphere and ambiance of this amazing place.
One such example is the abandoned brick works and small harbour at Porth Wen on the north coast of the island.
Constructed in the Victorian era over a hundred years ago now, to make fire bricks out of the locally mined quartzite, the site was closed down in the middle of the 20th centrury and left to slowly return to nature.
And now the brickworks form such an integral part of the landscape at Porth Wen that I couldn't imagine this scene without them.
The derelict furnaces and other buildings certainly make for an interesting and engaging photo at least, adding a definite focal point to an already lovely view!
