This dramatic scene is to be found on the west coast of Ireland, at the pleasant seaside town of Ballybunion.
My wife Liz and I were visiting my son and daughter in law who live in Limerick. We decided to have a day out at Ballybunion as my son and daughter in law were involved in a Christian worship conference nearby.
In the evening I decided to skip the conference in favour of returning to Ballybunion to photograph the ruined castle, perched improbably in the middle of the beach.
When I got there it was already dark and drizzling steadily (not unusual for those parts!) but that just added to the shot's atmosphere, with the warmly lit ruin contrasting nicely with the steely blue clouds and sea.
