Ripples in the sand, a still pool of tidal runoff, dappled clouds and a line of groynes.
What more could a photographer want from an afternoon at the seaside?
This is the beach at Rhyl on the North Wales coast in early spring.
Acres of wet sand left by the receding tide and not a soul in sight apart from my wife Liz, patiently waiting in the cold while I frame up 'just one more' shot of this lovely scene.
After half an hour's walk up and down the beach we returned to this spot only to find the pool had vanished, drained into the sea on that endless ebb and flow of tide that shapes and defines our coast and beaches.
By then we were thoroughly chilled, so I didn't stop again to hunt for another composition featuring these groynes.
We went hunting for coffee instead!
