The story behind this image

Standing on the beach at Llanbedrog, on the southern side of the Llyn Peninsula, gave this beautiful view across Cardigan Bay to the cloud capped foothills of Snowdonia in the far distance.

Although it was a lovely sunny afternoon with vivid colours, made more so by the use of a polarising filter, I decided in the end that this monochrome version of the view better expressed the drama of the scene, emphasising the contrast between the banked clouds and the dark sky above.

The yacht in the bottom left hand corner of the image also benefitted from the monochrome treatment, standing out well against the dark grey sea.

I also thought about cropping most of the sky off, but then I noticed the tiny speck of white that was a solitary seagull picked out against the sky, rendered a dark blue (and then an even darker grey) by the use of the polarising filter, so in the end I left the sky and seagull as they were.
