The story behind this image

The lovely views of the Antrim coast kept my wife Liz and I happily staring ahead as we paddled in the Atlantic surf at Whitepark Bay.

But as we strolled along the line of breaking waves I spotted this strand of seaweed anchored to a semi-buried rock, which the receding waves had left pointing directly towards the ocean like a giant exclamation mark.

It was too good an opportunity to pass by, so I crouched down, adjusted my ND grad filter to darken the sky and took a few handheld exposures with varying patterns of breaking waves in the middle ground.

This was the best of the bunch.

The whole shoot only took about thirty seconds before I was up and on my way to catch up with my wife who was by now, several yards ahead.
