It had been a long, but visually stunning, morning at Bear Lake high in the Rocky Mountains.
My wife Liz and I had arrived well before sunrise, to watch the light hit Hallett Peak and shoot stills for my time lapse video Rocky Mountain Time Lapse #5.
What we had hoped for, but weren't really expecting, was a calm morning with reasonable reflections of the sunlit scene in the waters of the lake.
Well, what we actually saw went way beyond our expectations, with an absolute flat calm and 'almost too good to be true' reflections of the mountains and glowing golden aspens.
Having finished shooting the images for the time lapse video, I just couldn't tear myself away from such beauty without one last photographic effort.
So I set up my camera and tripod in panorama mode (not a menu option!) and shot a series of overlapping stills covering the entire width of the lake, about a 180 degree field of view.
The reflection stayed perfect throughout, and the merge to panorama function in Adobe Lightroom CC spat out a beautifully rendered file which, with a little tweaking, resulted in this image.
A suitable reminder of a very special morning.
