Birds and rock #1

Three birds on a rock, St Martin, Carribean

The story behind this image

I don't normally do wildlife or bird photography, but on this occasion, at the beach on St Martin in the Carribean, I couldn't resist this composition between the birds and the rocks.

Fortunately I had my 100-400mm zoom fitted to my camera at the time or I wouldn't even have attempted this shot, as the birds were quite shy and would fly away if you got too close.

As it was, they posed impeccably for me, all lined up, looking in the same direction, nicely spaced out and in just the right spot.

A vignette, added in post production, helps to focus attention on the birds and stops the eye from wandering out of the frame.
