This view of the bridge deliberately excludes all the surrounding Autumn colour, and the few bits of non-grey left in the composition have been converted to monochrome.
Why? Well in some images (most of mine in fact) colour adds to the mood, atmosphere and general appeal of the image, while in others colour is just a distraction, and whatever doesn't add to an image ends up detracting from it as the viewers' attention and interpretation is diluted by factors in the composition that shouldn't be there.
So for this particular image the colour had to go, leaving just the tones of light and shade to bring out the mood I was trying to convey with this picture. A mood of sombre quiet and brooding ancient history that so defines this amazing part of the world.
