Although my wife Liz and I know the Isle of Anglesey off the North Wales coast very well, there still seems to be new locations that we keep on finding.
One such gem is the Breakwater Country Park, just above Holyhead on the side of Holyhead mountain.
Based on the quarry and workings used to furnish materials for the huge Holyhead breakwater, this park also acts as the starting point for some spectacular walks along the cliffs of Holyhead mountain, which is where Liz and I came across this somewhat unusual bunker.
Initially we thought it was a relic from the second world war, but we met a local out walking the same path who explained that it was, in fact, a bunker used to store the explosives used at the quarry.
Makes sense to put your dynamite a good distance from where you're working!
Anyhow, the bunker made for a great photo opportunity, and I always reckoned on a monochrome rendition of this piece of local history to bring out the mood of the place.
