It's great fun to be lying on a sunlounger on the beach at 30 degrees C with a cool drink on the table and a DSLR with a 400mm lens fitted by one's side.
Such was the case here on St Martin in the Carribean. I was lying in the shade looking for interesting things and people to photograph when this holiday maker floated into view in his inflatable canoe.
What motivated me to put down my drink and pick up my camera was the great contrast between the white canoe and the deep green sea, which I further enhanced with a polarising filter.
I had to take a couple of test shots to get the exposure right, as I couldn't let the white canoe overexpose and burn out. Having dialled in the correct exposure I just sat and waited until the canoe was pointing into the frame from the lower right hand third and took the shot.
A vignette was added in post production to further emphasise the stark white of the canoe.
