Ireland is a fantastic country for history buffs and photographers, like me, who are drawn to ancient relics, redolent with mystery and hidden meaning.
I spotted this carving over a stone arch in the village of Cong in Co. Galway in the west of Ireland. I wonder who this king was (King Cong - ha ha) and what he did during his reign? Was he a good king or a tyrant? Did he conquer or was he conquered?
All we have left is that enigmatic face adorning a doorway, crowned with ivy and the weight of centuries now, rather than gold.
