The border regions between Wales and England are redolent with the history of conflict, as evidenced by the many castles that dot high points in this part of the world.
One of the most dramatic locations is that of Castell Dinas Bran.
Sitting on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful town of Llangollen on the river Dee, Castell Dinas Bran is now an imposing ruin that still exudes a brooding presence over the valley it once commanded.
When I took this photograph I always envisioned the scene in black and white, emphasising the melancholy and drama of this once proud site, now home to crows and tourists.
As the poet Wordsworth said of Dinas Bran 'Relics of kings, wreck of forgotten wars, To the winds abandoned and the prying stars.'
