The story behind this image

My wife Liz and I usually spend a week each spring in the west of Ireland, primarily to visit our son and his family who live in Limerick.

Each time we go we make a point of visiting somewhere new, which is easy as this is such a wonderfully diverse and unspoilt part of the world with various coastal and inland delights all within easy driving range.

This year's 'find' was the wild coast around a promintory of land called Loop Head.

Loop Head sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, with the south side bounded by the Shannon estuary and has a fantastic coastal road that goes all the way around the peninsula.

Right at the tip is the lighthouse which is where this photo was taken, with me hanging out over a sheer cliff to get this view. There were no safety warnings, barriers or men in hi-viz jackets to stop me - how refreshing!

Liz was a bit nervous, so I didn't linger too long at the edge, but the view was certainly worth it.
