Of all the places Liz and I visited during our whirlwind weekend away on the North Cornish coast, Bedruthan Steps was our favourite.
This is such a dramatic location, with soaring cliffs, crashing waves, impossibly placed rocks, golden sands and a deep green sea.
We first visited during the early afternoon, with the tide out, and you can see some pictures from that visit earlier in this gallery. However, we just had to come back for another fix at sunset, which coincided with high tide. So having eaten a very rushed tea we headed back into the gathering gloom.
Things didn't look good weatherwise, with a strong breeze blowing heavy clouds across the sky to the western horizon, and intermittent drizzle making exposing a lens a hazardous affair. A disposable shower cap came in handy to slip over the camera when the rain hit, only to be whipped off again once the danger had passed.
Anyhow, undeterred and huddled in cagoules, wooly hats and gloves, we waited on the cliff edge for the time sunset was supposed to happen, all the while staring at the horizon hoping for a break in the clouds.
At literally the last minute a tiny gap opened up right on the boundary between sea and sky, allowing a brief gleam from the setting sun to escape and hit the sensor in my Canon.
A few seconds later it was gone. Just one of those fleeting moments that only those of us crazy enough to be out and about in such conditions get to see.
