Being primarily an outdoor photographer I can't help but take an overweening interest in what's happening with the weather, and living as I do in North Wales there's plenty of weather to take an interest in.
I was enjoying an evening stroll with my wife along one of the beaches at Llandudno, when this beautiful fan shaped layer of bobbly altocumulus cloud drifted slowly overhead.
As we were facing west and the sun was just about to set, the clouds picked up the light and were glowing against the surrounding blue sky.
I waited until the shape formed by the layer of clouds was just about right before taking this photo.
Normally I would use a polarising filter to darken the blue sky and make the clouds 'pop', but pointing directly at the sun negates the effect of the filter, so I didn't bother.
Instead I added contrast to the image later on in PhotoShop to bring out the patterns and texture of the clouds and sky.
