If you want to catch a great sunset show then the Wirral coast at West Kirby, looking west out over the river Dee to the uplands of Wales beyond is the place to be.
With the mountains forcing the warm evening air to rise there's usually some dramatic clouds around to catch the last rays of the setting sun, such as was the case here when a hole in the clouds opened up and glowed red just as the sun set.
The effect only lasted a couple of minutes before the sun sank below the horizon and the scene returned to the grey blue of twilight, but I'm glad I was there to witness and photograph such a beautiful and fleeting light show.
